Embracer Group has announced that it’s planning to fully capitalize on its recent acquisitions of Square Enix IPs with sequels, remakes, remasters and spinoffs all potentially in the cards for series including Deus Ex, Tomb Raider and Thief.
The deal saw Embracer Group picking up some of Square Enix’s top Western studios earlier this month in what has become the latest significant studio aquisition this year after Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard and Sony buying Bungie.
Embracer Group acquired Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal (presumably the latter will require a name change). And with that the purchase of some of the most iconic IPs in the gaming world. The deal totalled $300 million.
A recent earnings report from Embracer Group references Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and Legacy of Kain. Citing an “overwhelming and positive response” to the purchase from fans.
The deal should please fans who have been missing the Deus Ex series reboot since it was dropped in 2016, the Thief series that hasn’t seen a release since 2014, and those looking forward to more Tomb Raider. Embracer also mentioned that Legacy of Kain hasn’t seen a release since the early 2000s despite being highly praised by critics and fans alike.
